Registering an eety prepaid card. New legislation from January 1, 2019.
After Germany, France, Bulgaria, Denmark, Greece, Slovakia, Italy and Spain, for example, the legal obligation to register of Article 97(1a) of Austria’s Telecommunications Act now enters into force in Austria, too, on January 1, 2019. It stipulates that SIM cards for new customers must be registered by name at the time of purchase and for existing customers by the end of August 2019 at the latest.
What does that mean for you as a new eety prepaid card customer?
Regardless of whether you buy your prepaid card from a selected retailer or online, you will have to disclose your master data and identify yourself from 2019. Shop employees will assist you with this and simplify the registration process. You can find a list of participating retailers here.
What does that mean for existing eety customers?
You can register at selected retail partners until no later than August 31, 2019. This can also be done easily and conveniently directly in the eety account manager from the end of January 2019. For a successful registration via the eety account manager you will need a national bank account with active online banking, a valid ID and a wireless internet connection.
It is important to note that if you purchased a prepaid card before 2019 and failed to register it by the end of August, it cannot be topped up afterwards.
What do you need to register by name?
To register, you need valid ID: identity card, driver’s license or passport.
